I done my graduation in fine arts, and also have 5yrs experience in teaching

For graphite pencils and coloured pencils, grab a mechanical sharpener. The best graphite pencil sharpener is a manual or mechanical sharpener, these sharpeners are also the best for coloured pencils too (with the exception of woodless pencils, it's best to use a hobby knife for those).

These sharpeners have larger holes and can handle the softer leads of charcoal and pastel pencils without breaking them. Just make sure to sharpen gently and rotate the pencil to get a nice, even point for your drawing.
