I have been playing Guitar and bass for about 2 years(Not everyday due to a lot of constraints). I could play certain songs quite easily while in a sitting position. But when I try it while standing I kind of get cramped for room(esp while trying to use the little finger near the 12th fret). Also the visibility of individual strings is not good. I dont hang my guitar so low near my knees and I dont want to hang near my chest(It kind of doesnt look good). Hence I hang it near my hips. Is there something wrong with my technique and are there any solutions available?

Google for the best possible technique and styles. Consider sitting and playing and get to a point where you can play the guitar without looking at the frets. Then start standing and playing. If your fingers don't reach comfortably reduce the length of the strap.

Improve your musical thoughts with your guitar and improvise through my lessons. hope u

I think Thayumanav you just need to practice in standing position..... and u just need to understand or feel where to hang your guitar to get access the total freatboard with your left hand fingers properly..... dont go for looks... just find the proper technicality.....

A strap frees you hand so you can play. It is okay to have the guitar hang above the hip. A shortened strap many not look cool, but...

A strap frees you hand so you can play. It is okay to have the guitar hang above the hip. A shortened strap many not look cool, but it makes Guitar or Bass playing easier. Practice Guitar keeping thumb always behind the neck.... It should be invisible to anyone standing in front of you. The only time it is necessary to wrap the thumb on the neck is when bending the strings. This should help you to move around easily and the fingers may not get cramped while going up the neck. Good Day! Francis read less
