There are 3 types of data;
Structured Data - This is of tabular type with row and columns which you often come across.
Semi Structured Data - This kind of data is not in tabular form, but follows some kind of structure, like programming codes, XML data, Json data etc.,.
Un structured Data - This kind of data, as it name implies does not have any defined structure.
All these formats of data are generated massively across the world everyday and we ALWAYS need tools and technologies to handle them.
A RDBMS and SQL is used to store and manage structured data whereas NoSQL and Mongodb is used to handle semi structured and unstructured data.
Since both these technologies and tools addresses different needs, hence, in my point of view, they cannot replace each other.
