Question:
A and B run around a circular track of length 600m at speed of 6m/s and 10m/s starting from the same point simultaneously in the same direction.
a)When will they meet for the first time since they started the race ?
b)How far relative to the starting point in the direction in which A runs will they meet when , they meet for the first time ?
c) When will they meet for the first time at starting point ?
Answer:
Solution:
Time taken to meet for the first time = (Distance )/Relative Speed
Distance => 600m
Relative speed => 10-6 =4m/s
Time taken : 600/4 = 150 seconds
b) In 150 second A would have run 6× 150 = 900 m.
900 m is full circle and 300m. 300m from the starting point is the point that is diametrically opposite the starting point.
C) Time taken to meet for the first time at starting point
= LCM ( Length of 1 race/Speed of A , Length of 1 race / speed of B.)
LCM ( 600/6 , 600/10) = 300 seconds.
