The only similarity between Tagalog and Spanish is the Spanish words that entered Tagalog. The two languages are not related at all since Spanish is an Indo-European language and Tagalog is an Austronesian one.

Perhaps the greatest difference between English and Spanish is that Spanish has only five vowel sounds while English has more than 14, depending on regional dialects. This is the reason Spanish speakers have difficulty differentiating between vowel phonemes in words like seat and sit.

Spanish is absolutely useful for understanding a large number of Latin roots, as this will be extremely helpful when listening and speaking to people from Portugal, Italy and France (among many other countries and regions in Europe) as their languages are all very closely related to Spanish.

It's unlikely that Spanish will replace English as America's dominant language in the foreseeable future. English has been the dominant language in the United States since its inception, and it continues to be the primary language of government, business, education, and daily life for the majority of Americans. While Spanish is widely spoken across the country due to demographic trends, especially in states with large Hispanic populations, it functions alongside English rather than supplanting it. Bilingualism is increasingly common, but English remains firmly entrenched as the dominant language of communication and culture in the United States.
