Language, grammar are literature are three different things. We have been teaching and learning grammar and literature in schools and colleges, this is the reason we are unable to pickup the Language Skill. To improve you language you need to learn words group (Lexical chunks), e.g. Even though, or else, would you mind...etc. Collocation, e.g. We say heavy rain not severe rain. Commonly used idioms and phrases, e.g. make a mark, make a fortune etc. Read the usage of a word in different contexts ( in dictionary) e.g. The carpet of Kashmir, He was given a red-carpet welcome etc. and finally read a news paper like 'The HIndu' (Don't look into dictionary for meaning every now and then) try to understand from the context.
