Hindi plays a crucial role in Indian politics for several reasons:

  1. Official Language: Hindi, along with English, is one of the official languages of India. This status ensures its prominent use in government functions, legal affairs, and administrative purposes. Political leaders often use Hindi to communicate policies and messages to the masses.

  2. Demographic Reach: Hindi is the most widely spoken language in India. It serves as a lingua franca in many parts of the country, especially in the Hindi-speaking belt, which includes states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Politicians often use Hindi to connect with a larger audience.

  3. Electoral Strategy: Political parties use Hindi to campaign and communicate with voters, particularly in northern and central India, where the majority of the electorate understands the language. This makes Hindi a strategic tool in electoral politics.

  4. Media Influence: Hindi media, including newspapers, television, and digital platforms, has a vast audience. Politicians frequently use these platforms to reach out to the public, making Hindi a significant medium for political communication.

  5. Cultural Significance: Hindi carries cultural and historical significance. Political leaders often evoke cultural and nationalistic sentiments through Hindi, appealing to voters' sense of identity and heritage.

  6. Legislative Use: In the Parliament of India and various state assemblies, Hindi is commonly used for debates and discussions. This use reinforces its importance in legislative processes and political discourse.

  7. National Integration: While India is a linguistically diverse country, Hindi serves as a unifying language. Its use in politics helps foster a sense of national unity and common identity among diverse linguistic groups.

  8. Educational Policies: The promotion of Hindi in education policies reflects its importance in shaping future generations. Political leaders advocate for Hindi to strengthen its role in the educational system, thereby influencing future political dynamics.

Overall, Hindi's role in Indian politics is multifaceted, encompassing communication, cultural identity, electoral strategy, and legislative functions. Its widespread use and significance make it a vital component of India's political landscape.

Is Hindi language meant to unite Indians or to trigger Indians?

Hindi has become a tool in India, it is dependent on people who use it, either to unite or to trigger.

More than schools or Hindi prachar sabhas, it is Bollywood which spread Hindi throughout our country. By watching Hindi movies, we can at least understand some basic Hindi, even though we may not be able to speak Hindi fluently.

When PM gives speech, most of Indians will watch it live, it will be in Hindi.

Hindi is definitely a strong link language in north India, it enables people from different states to communicate with each other. To a very small extent, it is true in south India too.

When north Indians joins colleges in south, initially they interact with us in Hindi, Hindi songs in college events too acts as a binding factor.

Even many foreign countries use Hindi to denote India, or use Hindi to wish any occasion in India.

In all these cases, Hindi actually unites us.

However, there are many instances which triggers us too !!!

With the strength Hindi has, many people who speak it or come from Hindi belt region has lot of superiority thinking. It is the official language of Govt of India, also the myth that it is the national language, makes them feel they are elite, they expect services in Hindi throughout India.

They think Hindi is the true representation of India.

If AR Rahman sings Tamil with Hindi songs in a concert in UK, they will protest against him for singing Tamil, if Rajamouli tells RRR is a Telugu film, they will troll him. Why should Hindi alone represent India on a global platform?

They assume that to be a patriotic Indian, we need to know Hindi. They assume learning Hindi is a constitutional duty. We have seen all these either in real life or in social media.

See the below tweet, even Sachin Tendulkar can't tweet anything in his mother tongue Marathi, see what reply he gets, this is not some isolated incident. It keeps on happening regularly. This is the outcome of 'national icons should always use Hindi' mindset. As they imagine only Hindi can represent India.
