Well I have answered the same type of question here. i will try to answer again here. you can not compare two languages. Why and which task you want to accomplish makes a language better over other. when you think of making a webpage you have to use html, there is no other way. 

now if you want to make it interactive you will use java or jquery. if you need server programming you will php or jsp. So every language used for a purpose. your purpose decide which language you want to use and have advantages over other.
