IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System. It is a standardized test that measures the English language proficiency of non-native English language speakers who want to study or work where English is the language of communication.
IELTS test is jointly owned by British Council, IDP – IELTS Australia and Cambridge university. The IELTS test score is considered a mandate or ‘good to have’ specially for those in plan to migrate to English speaking countries. Around 3000 academic institutes of U.S., colleges of Britain, Australia, New Zealand and Canada accept the IELTS score during admission procedure as a proof to applicant’s English capability. To sum up, around 9000+ colleges of over 140 countries accept the IELTS score.
Authorities of U.K., Australia, Canada and New Zealand accept IELTS score for immigration purpose.
The exam score is recognized by thousands of organizations worldwide that include educational institutions, employers, immigration authorities etc. This exam assesses your English language skills.
IELTS Academic is available on all 48 dates per year and IELTS General Training is available on 24 dates per year.
Registration is done online on the British Council IELTS India website or can register at British Council office or IDP India office in person. From 2018, IELTS exam fee administrated is Rs. 12,650.
IELTS Academic test is for those who want to apply for higher education in universities and other institutions or pursue professional registration such as medical doctors and nurses in an English-speaking country. This score is considered for admissions in undergraduate or post graduate courses.
IELTS General Training test is for those who are planning to migrate or apply for secondary education, training programmes and work experience in an English-speaking country. As the name suggests this format focuses on the general survival skills needed at workplace or training. This is mandatory for people migrating to Australia, Canada and New Zealand.
IELTS recognizes both British and American English in terms of spelling, grammar and choice of words. It also incorporates a mix of native speaker accents from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK and US in the listening component. IELTS is jointly owned by British Council, IDP-IELTS Australia and Cambridge English language assessment through more than 900 locations across 130 countries.
