The veena, a traditional Indian stringed instrument, often features a carving of a dragon-like creature, known as a "Yali" or "Makara", on its top or neck. This carving has significant cultural and symbolic meaning: 1. Mythological significance: In Hindu mythology, the Yali is a mythical creature associated with water, fertility, and protection. It's said to have the power to control the forces of nature. 2. Guardianship: The Yali is believed to guard the veena and its player from negative energies and evil spirits, ensuring the music remains pure and sacred. 3. Aesthetic appeal: The intricate carving adds to the veena's beauty and visual appeal, making it a stunning piece of art. 4. Symbolism: The Yali represents the veena's connection to the divine, the natural world, and the cycle of life. 5. Regional influence: The Yali carving might have been influenced by South Indian temple architecture, where such creatures are commonly depicted as guardians. The dragon-like carving on the veena serves as a reminder of the instrument's cultural heritage, spiritual significance, and the importance of music in Indian tradition. read less

How to take sapaat taan while singing Raag Bhinna Shadaj? I am having little bit of issues while coming back from taar saptak in speed. Although I have good command on speed when doing normal Riyaaz. Please help.
Hello Ishaan...I think you are having problem because there are jumping notes. Re and Pa are not used in this Raaga so, take the SapaT as you take simple ChhuT Taans. And try to keep the Daanas even. You will improve I'm sure. Best of luck!
