Depends what type of song you are recording! Every song has its own setup! Rock music always has that classic bass 12 o clock Mid 3o clock and High 4-5 o clock, Blues players don't use compression often, because it flatenes the dynamics.

Common EQ and Compression Settings for Guitar Tracks in Online Coaching

  • Guitar EQ and compression settings are essential for achieving a balanced and professional sound in online guitar coaching and training. Here are some common settings:

Equalization (EQ) Settings:

  1. High Pass Filter (HPF):
    • Set the HPF to around 80-100 Hz to remove low-end rumble and unwanted frequencies.
  2. Low Shelf:
    • Boosting the low shelf (around 80-120 Hz) can add warmth and body to the guitar sound.
  3. Mid Frequencies (400-800 Hz):
    • Reducing the mid frequencies can help in taming any muddiness.
  4. Presence (2-5 kHz):
    • Boosting the presence frequencies can add clarity and definition to the guitar sound.
  5. High Frequencies (8-12 kHz):
    • Boosting the high frequencies can add sparkle and brightness to the guitar tone.

Compression Settings:

  1. Threshold:
    • Set the threshold to control the dynamic range of the guitar. Start with -3 to -6 dB for gentle compression.
  2. Ratio:
    • A ratio of 4:1 or 6:1 is common for guitar tracks in coaching sessions.
  3. Attack and Release:
    • A medium attack (10-30 ms) and release (50-100 ms) settings are often suitable for guitars.
  4. Make-up Gain:
    • Adjust the make-up gain to bring the compressed signal to the desired level.
  5. Parallel Compression:
    • In online coaching, use parallel compression for a more natural and dynamic guitar sound.

What are some benefits of not changing your guitar strings?
Old strings (dead strings) tend to be more stable and consistent in tone. Though eventually they do get played out and won't stay in tune and lose tone. Some prefer the sound (even seasoned pros).
