Some say that Germans feel closer to the English, while others disagree with the claim. So, the answer to this question may vary from individual to individual. Despite all these, both English and French have their roots connected to the German language. In fact, Germany, Britain and France constitute a very strong triangle, and it is tough to separate and compare between them.
In the English language, there are several words which are derived from German, and the French language as they share a long history between them. These three languages are Indo European, and it is believed that a lot of English words are borrowed from French. They share several similarities, true cognates and alphabets.
When we look at the ratio, we will find a larger no. of people feel more connected to English than French. The reason behind this is English, being a global language, has many speakers around the world. Also, it is much easier to learn as compared to French. You can find many Germans who are very much fond of English literature and movies.
So, summing up, there are people in Germany who like being connected to the French language and culture, but they are less in numbers as compared to the English loving people.
