It depends on the individual's motivational level(desire to learn) .(if its through English then a basic knowledge of English Grammar and fluency would help).I have had students who could manage after about 40 hours...In fact with about 10 hours of Training a few have got the pronunciation `right' to some extent and have been able to answer basic questions posed to them in French ...Ideally about 120 Hours in a Classroom Situation spread over 3 months would be good..But a short,intensive course of 40 hours in about 3-4 weeks can give the learner confidence if he or she is going to France or a French Speaking country to communicate in French...and then by exposure to the language 24x7 he/she can pick up on his/her own. read less
