Hey friends, today I will be sharing with you, a few tips to crack, the M.A French entrance exam of JNU university. This university, is among a few which provide, M.A in French literature, as well as translation. However, the exam, for both the branches is same. Let’s start, by understanding the structure, of this 3-hour long exam. This is a 70 marks paper, and 30 marks are for the interview.

To crack any exam, we must first be familiar, with its different parts and its syllabus. This exam has three parts. The first one is French literature, the second one is French civilization, and the third one is translation and interpretation. In the first part, you have to write, 1 answer by choosing from the two given questions, and this part carries 25 marks. The next part also, has two questions, and you have to do one from them, which carries 20 marks. The third part has two mandatory questions. The first one needs you to translate, a French text into English, and it carries 13 marks. The next question gives you two simultaneous tasks. First is, to translate it into French and second is, to write its resume. This carries 12 marks. According to the marks, you should pay, a lot of attention on the part, based on French literature as it carries maximum marks. But, if you wish to do, M.A in translation, the third part is equally important. Key is, to attempt, first of all, the part that you are most comfortable with, and then proceed to other parts. Also, try to attempt the whole paper, and do not leave any question unanswered, even if that part does not interest you much.

As far as, the syllabus of M.A French entrance goes, you should be well versed, with different literary movements, that took place in France, from as early as renaissance period, till the modern literature was born. Once, you know about the important movements, you should look at important authors, and their main works of that period. With this, you will cover, the first part of your exam, which is based on French literature.

The second thing, that you should do, is read French newspaper, regularly, to be aware, of the current events. Moreover, you should have ample knowledge, about French history and important historical events of France. This would enable you, to answer the question of second part, which is based on the civilization.

The third part of the exam, is based on translation. For this part too, reading French newspaper, is of great help, as the texts given in the exam, are usually, articles from newspaper or magazines. Knowledge of current events, come in handy, for, this part too.

Finally, what I wish to tell you is that, in all the three parts, pay a lot of attention, to avoid grammatical, spelling and structural mistakes. Keep your answer crisp, and well suited to the length, as per the marks attributed to a question. Once you have thoroughly prepared the syllabus, practice writing the answers, of previous year question papers, and get them checked by someone to improve them. And lastly, manage your time well.
