If you are classically trained, you will need to perform a serious overhaul to your sound production. In jazz flute a steady consistent sound is key. You want the foundation of your sound to have no vibrato. In classical music it is entirely acceptable. Listen to someone like Sir James Galway and it’s almost like their whole body is vibrating with the flute. In jazz it just sounds old-fashioned and inconsistent, being part of a woodwinds trend that died almost a century ago.
