Cellulose is an essential organic molecule, and its sturdy structure provides a wide variety of functions. It is a significant component of tough cell walls that surround plant cells and is what makes plant stems, leaves, and branches so strong and firm.
Cellulose is a tough, fibrous, and water-insoluble polysaccharide that plays an integral role in keeping the structure of plant cell walls stable, which, when present in the cell wall are known as cellulosic cell-wall. Whereas organisms having an absence of cellulose in their cell wall are called non-cellulosic cell-wall. Non-cellulosic cell wall function is to act as pressure vessels, preventing over-expansion of the cell when water enters. Instead of cellulose in their cell wall, are being replaced with chitin, pectins, etc. For eg.- Monera have a cell wall of protein plus polysaccharide compound, but not cellulose, All fungi have a cell wall made of chitin. I hope this general concept would clear your doubts.
