Ballet is more graceful and has more complex steps than jazz. Jazz is based upon natural body movements and is more fluid, whereas Ballet is more vibrant. Ballet is performance oriented whereas jazz is for one's own satisfaction, a foot tapping dance.

Jazz dance styles is energetic and characterized by unique moves, fancy footwork, and meaningful expressions. Ballet is a classical dance form characterized by grace, precision, and an erect spine.

As a reaction on the ballet technique, modern dance was looking for more freedom within the techniques and /or more use of gravity. Modern Dance uses the floor for example where ballet dancers stay on their feet.

ballet is characterized by strict, precise technique with emphasis on elegant lines and traditional form, modern dance is more fluid and expressive with a focus on personal interpretation and improvisation, and jazz dance incorporates strong rhythmic elements, often drawing from everyday movements with a strong connection to the music and its syncopated rhythms.

Key differences:

Technique:

Ballet prioritizes strict alignment and turned-out legs, while modern dance emphasizes body isolations and contractions, and jazz incorporates elements of both with a focus on flexibility and sharp, percussive movements.

Movement Quality:

Ballet tends to be graceful and controlled, modern dance is often more dynamic and expressive, and jazz is energetic and playful with sharp accents and isolations.

Choreography:

Ballet often follows a narrative structure with intricate steps, modern dance allows for more improvisation and personal expression, and jazz choreography heavily emphasizes rhythmic patterns and musicality.

Music:

Ballet typically uses classical music, modern dance can incorporate a wider range of music styles, and jazz often uses music with strong rhythms and syncopation.
