In Short, Cloudwatch is a monitoring service that monitors your AWS resources as well as Application that you run on AWS.
And CloudTrail monitors API calls in the AWS platform.
Example - 1 - You want to check the performace of my EC2 Intances. You will choose Cloudwatch.
Example -2 - Let us say somebody has modified something and you are not sure what exactly cause the issue.
Then go to your API Activity history in the cloudtrail events and find out what was the cause of the problem.
