There is 10 electrons and 11protons in Na+ ion. So effective nuclear charge increases. Because of this Na+ is smaller than Na.

Na has an electron in its outermost shell. Na+ is formed by removing the one valence electron from the outermost shell.Hence a shell is lesser in number than that of Na. That's why Na+ has lower size than Na.
