But in solids, it can propagate as transverse waves also. But the question here is not clear. As I understand, it is TYPES of SOUND waves. An immdeiate answer can be w.r.to the audible frequencies. If that is the reference, there are three types: Infrasonic sound (frequency less than audible range), audible sound and ultrasonic soud waves (frequency greater than audible range). read less
