With increase in literacy, women took great interest in reading and writing. Many journals started emphasizing the importance of women’s education. Many magazines and books were specially published for women. The print culture gave the women some amount of freedom to read and develop their own views on various issues, especially those related to women. Women novelists such as Jane Austen and Bronte sisters in Europe and Kailashbashini Debi and Pandita Ramabai in India presented the new type of woman.Liberal husbands and fathers educated their womenfolk at home or sent them to schools for women. Women who had been restricted to a domestic life for generations, now found a new medium of entertainment. They also began to write articles for journals, in favour of women's education and literacy. Some even wrote books; Rashsundari  autobiography Amar Jibanâ was the first full-length autobiography, published in 1876. Conservatives believed that education and reading would make women widows, or corrupt them.

The spread of print culture in 19th century india benefitted Indian women

The liberal families supported the education of women, but on the other hand, the conservative families prevented woman to study or read

This led to counter reaction as most of the oppressed women began to study and read books and learnt writing in secret ways I.e.,kitchen

They latter expressed their lives in biographical accounts which were published much after they were written

Overall the print culture helped in the spread of feelings of self-reliance among Indian women
