It is expected that 50% of the existing careers will disappear in the next five years. This will be even more critical in the coming years, as experts suggest that people may have to change four to five verticals during their entire career as we are entering into a VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous) world.
In this context, a person must have a clear understanding of their interests and abilities to identify four or five related verticals on which they could focus. Even if there are tumultuous changes, they can learn to survive during the turbulent times and succeed, as these verticals align with their interests and abilities.
A well thought out career decision taken after assessing the interests and abilities of students and aligning it with their career will help the students to enjoy their work, which will quickly translate into success later.
We must educate the parents and teachers not to mention the students on the roles and responsibilities, the skills required, kind of preparation needed to succeed, courses to pursue, the demand or otherwise of the careers they like, level of practice needed to get into the vertical, etc. of the traditional as well as emerging careers.
