1) Role of Numericals: These problems are based on realizing circuits, being a R&D engineer, I would like to suggest all students to lay emphasis on Numerical Problems as they are very important both from technical and competitive exam point of view.
2) Engineering Mathematics: First hurdle is of engineering mathematics especially for diploma students getting into degree. Don't worry as it's not that hard if you solve some handful problems to every topic. This will solve about 50% problems in numericals. Subjects like DSP, Network Analysis etc. can be taken easily with the help of engineering mathematics.
3) Variations: A common mistake made by student is that they solve numerical problems as math problems i.e. something like a definite formula for a definite problem. Numericals are solved through concepts and principles i.e, you can't solve it though a definite formula. You can expect a new problem each time.
4) How to gain Expertise?: Best way is to solve as much problems as you can. Take considerations of parameters, conditions(like temperature, time etc.) and try to get into the circuit by indicating current directions. Next part is to form equations from which you get needed quantities.
5) Practical Experiments: These experiments comprises of lots of equations. This is the best way in which you get to know how these numericals helps in real life examples and the magic of these numbers.
