I think that creativity is the ability to think and conceive ideas that are outside the norm. At the same time they are appealing in some way.
The term “get creative” outside of the arts tends to mean “"think of something no one has yet” because all the tried and true methods aren't working.
Depending on your artistic aims, (originality or a fresh voice) creativity is important or it isn't.
Highly academic artists who are concerned with technical accuracy aren't necessarily seen as creative, just skilled.
It all depends. Ultimately artists have the responsibility to use whatever voice that they see fit to achieve their goals.
