What is swar?
The word Swar is derived from Sanskrit word Svar which means sound.There are different types of sound but sound which is soothing to ear and which is musical is known swaras or Sur.Swar mean a note in the Octave.The seven basic notes of scale(swaras) in Indian music are named as Shadja,Rishabh,gandhar,madhyam,Pancham,Dhaivat and Nishad etc.Raga is a basis of melody and Tala is the basis of rhythm.
