UPSC - Group A Services Exams

The UPSC Exam is the leading government recruitment agency that is dedicatedly conducting different types of examinations. Those who qualify for the exams are appointed for the All India Administrative Services.

Indian Foreign Services (IFS)-

The IFS or Indian foreign services is an exam that is organised to search for candidates who would be representing the country at the international level. Most of the IFS officials deal with external affairs, including diplomacy, culture, trade, and relation. IFS is also responsible for framing India's management policies, foreign policies, and all the different types of Indian missions held on the international platform.

Indian Audit and Accounts Service (IAAS)-

This central government service is not under the control of any executive authority. These recruited candidates, known as the IAAS officers, serve as audit managers of the Indian Audit and Accounts Department. They audit the accounts of the Union and State Government and many of the public sector organisations.

Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS)-

This Civil Services of India was created in the year 1976. Earlier, this department was working together with the Auditing department. However, from 1977 this service came under the recognition of the Civil Service Examination, and from then, it was conducted by Union Public Service Commission.

Indian Corporate Law Service (ICLS)-

This Indian Corporate Law Service works for the corporate sector of India. It basically acts as the regulatory service. This department is functional under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, which works for the Government of India. The service holder or officers of this department are responsible for implementing the Companies Act 1956, Limited Liability Partnership Act 2008 and Companies Act 2013. This sector's basic aim is to develop the corporate sector and help to grow the economy of this country.

Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS)-

This department helps with Financial advice, audits and accounts, particularly for the defence department. The other departments, which come under this category, are Ordnance Factories, Military Engineer Services, Defence Research and Development Organisation etc. The officers who are chosen from this exam work under the defence Ministry of the Indian Government. Indian Defence Estates Service (IDES)-

The Indian Defence Estate service is also under the Ministry of Defence. This Civil Service Examination is conducted every year, and many young and brilliant people get a chance to serve their motherland. Earlier, this department was known as Military Lands and Cantonment Service. After a few years, it was changed to Defence Lands and Cantonment Service.  Now, this department is practically known as the Indian Defence Estate service.

Indian Information Service (IIS)-

The Indian Information Service is the government media department. The officers employed through the exam have to manage the department and are known as media managers. This department is entrusted to maintain proper communication between the Government and the common people. They are bound to share the various government policies, schemes, and other major ideas delivered by the Government.

Indian Ordnance Factories Service (IOFS)-

This civil service exam is held under Group A Central Civil Services.  This is an executive branch, and all the IOFS offices are declared Gazettes. This department works under the Ministry of Defence. The officers working under this department are liable to provide defence production under the guidelines of the Indian Government.

Indian Communication Finance Services (ICFS)-

Earlier, this department was popularly known as Indian Post and Telecommunication Accounts and Finance Services (IP&TAFS). This department started during the year 1972 to manage the finance of the Department of Posts and also the Department of Telecommunications. However, later with time, this department was changed, and the recruiters were added through Civil Service Examination only.

 Indian Postal Service (IPoS)-

The postal department of India is one of the oldest ones. However, the employees or the officers were not recruited through Civil service. The East India Company, run by the British Government, was the pioneer of this department. Later with the independence, the Government started employing. Considering the heavy demand, it was taken under UPSC after a certain period.

Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS)-

This department works to keep track of the Accounts and Finances of the Indian Railways. Moreover, every year, twenty-six to thirty-five officers are said to be employed in this department, which shows this department has a lot of scopes. People looking forward to attending this group A civil services exam can crack it with proper preparation.

 Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS)-

The officers of this department are enrolled to manage the Human Resource of the Indian Railways. They are entitled to check the problems and come up with solutions for the railway employees and their family members.

Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS)-

The officers of this department are responsible for checking the Railway transport of India. They also have to coordinate with other departments like the tech department to keep the traffic running smoothly.

Indian Revenue Service (IRS)-

This revenue department of Indian Revenue works under the Department of Finance of India. The responsibility of the officers is to collect and administer the various types of taxes.

Indian Trade Service (ITS)-

This civil service department handles the International Trade and Commerce department of India. The group of secretaries runs this department of commerce.

 Railway Protection Force (RPF)-

This is the Railway department’s own security force that works for the protection of the railway passengers and their property. The officers can investigate, arrest and prosecute against any offences committed in the Railway Property.
