During graduation is the best time to start preparation for IAS. The current trend of papers show increasingly analytic leanings. So you can start reading newspapers and magazines of relevance religiously. Making notes of important topics you find in the newspaper will further help you during revision time. Once you're in final year, chalk out a plan to dedicate about 3-4 hours daily for optional preparation. Once your graduation is done, prepare well for prelims by solving question papers. Don't waste your time after prelims in August, start preparing for Mains and give your best shot. If you are not able to spare any time during your graduation, don't attempt UPSC immediately, study from May till next year and give an attempt. Let me know what you want to do and I can help you strategize better! read less

can any one suggest the better career options after failure in 1st attempt of upsc exam, it should not divert/drag back from the game of upsc........ofcourse teaching is best what else more
Many options if you wish for a govt job. Also try for other exams conducted by UPSC such as CAPF, ICAR etc. Try for CGL by SSC and thirdly many vacancies are in banking and insurance sector through IBPS and other organisations
