Rule 1: Use words like Am/Is/Are to ask Yes / No questions about the identity or description of a person, place, or thing.

Eg: 

  • Is this good?
  • Am I going to pass the exam?
  • Are they dancing?

Rule 2: Use the verb HAVE/HAS to ask if somebody has already done an action.

Eg:

  • Have you gone to school?
  • Has this been a good day?

Rule 3: Use the verb DO (I, you, we, they) and DOES (he, she, it)to ask Yes / No questions in order to obtain facts about people, places, or things.

Eg:

  • Do you know where the school is?
  • Do you know when they will open the shop?
  • Does he speak English?

Rule 4: Use Can/Could to ask Yes / No questions about possibilities or uncertainties

Eg

  • Can you help me find the school?
  • Could you take this to Mr. Puri?
  • Could you tell me the time?
