CONTRACTIONS

Contraction means to shorten a word or phrase by omitting one or more sounds or letters from it.

1. My mom has a blue car.

Contracted sentence - My mom's car is blue

  • mom has = mom's

2. I will buy you an ice-cream.

Contracted sentence - I'll buy you an ice cream

  • I will = I'll

Contractions use the apostrophe (') to make words shorter and more straightforward. 

Other examples

  • Cannot = Can't
  • They will = They'll
  • There is = There's
  • Who is = Who's
  • Would have = Would've
  • It's a man = It is a man
  • There's a red balloon = There is a red balloon
  • Where there's water there's life = Where there is water there is life

  • isn't = is not
  • don't = do not
  • doesn't = does not
  • won't = will not
  • haven't = have not
  • can't = can not
  • wouldn't = would not
  • shouldn't = should not
