Significance of "riyaz"

The word "Riyaz",is the most misunderstood words by the begginers while learning any art form (specifically music).

Early days with any instruments such as tabla ,sitar and vocal,we spent a lot of time understanding basics and once we get that,then the whole focus goes to practicing the initial chapters.

What we forget that ,tabla is the instrument,that has expression.

The real Riyaz comprises the following .

Every time you've got some lesson try to  speak the bols ,the composition, try to play it in very very low speed .Play as you speak,think while you making changes in that composition.

Make better paltas ,try to make a poem out of that tabla.

Speed is not the matter of concern here ,the clarity of sound that was produced that matters.

 Creating your own tabla compositions is nothing but a series of making small small compositions throughout your tabla playing journey.

If a student starts his/her tabla playing journey ,and learns different bols, he must incorporate all those syllables in there practice .

For ex :you learned the first of the syllables as dha, na ,thit and tee.

Now try to incorporate these bols and make something which sounds better and you can play that ,as it is easy to remember.

For ex.

Dha ti dha na | na ti dha na|

And you can explore more and more,as you go along with your tabla journey .

Make different paltas , different kaydas , different tihayis etc.

And this journey will easily lead you towards making your own compositions .
