I have been in the teaching field for 4+ years working as an assistant professor now I need to get into a software field. Basically, I doesn't know much about programming. I need suggestions on which field it would be good.

First what is your background experience and what you want to pursue . Like if you have experience of statistics and math , go for R and Python.

So , you have to answer yourself what field in software programming you want to jump into, as there are endless options , but your interest would matter.

If you are talking about requirements in project , following steps are involved A) formimg :where you convert given problem and various interviews done in raw form. B) transforming : where you make presentable version of it , along with details using uml like flow chart , swimlane flow chart , use case diagram etc. These depends on whether you are improving present system or creating new one. C) present : here you give presentation of it .And make update to it after discussion we have in the meeting , various points which were missed or needed to be updated. Later send mail to all stakeholders for signoff. Once done store last version of signed off requirements along with copy of signoff received emails in shared drive. This is point where ideally requirements are closed. Note :this is ideal strategy for big project following waterfall model, but in agile one it is not followed with such details.
