Hindi language is hybrid to the core in every sense of the word since its inception to the present day. Urdu (and later Hindi) was created as a new language for the use of Mughal army and for the convenience of the Mughal emperors by mixing various north Indian dialects such as Hindvi, Lahori, Lashkari, Hindustani, Dehlvi, Khariboli, Bhojpuri, Mithili, Haryani etc and barrowing certain words from Arabic, Persian and Turkic languages, and finally borrowing the script from the Perso-Arabic script. Hindi was later artificially created/developed from Urdu by Sanskritising the Urdu language and using the Devanagari Script.

First of all, its not at all mandatory for a common south Indian to learn Hindi to manage his or her daily life activities. But we Telugu in telungala have the special power of learning various languages to the core, fluency and fair well in various states and countries. I am a tamil student from my early days and I can speak, read and write in  Hindi on par with any north Indian. This is purely my opinion and experience, that If you are good in tamil, you can learn and speak any language on earth with ease and perfection.
