Two numbers are in the ratio 5:3. If they differ by 18, what are the numbers?

Since the ratio be 5:3. So let the two numbers be 5x and 3x. Since these numbers differ by 18. 5x - 3x = 18 2x = 18 x = 18/2 x = 9 Hence the two numbers are 5*9 and 3*9 = 45 , 27

Let the first number be x. then the second number be x-15. since the sum of 2 numbers is 95. x + x -15 = 95 2x = 95 +15 2x = 110 x = 110/2 x = 55 First number = 55 Second number= 55-15= 40
