QTP is one of the most proven tool in the market and feature rich automation tool. The only tool which i have come accross which can give QTP Run for their money is Test Complete. Its. a Smart Bear product. feature rich as well. support 4 scripting languages and different browsers. cross browser testing is very easy. also based on Technology you can creat projects and but he object identification mechanism remains the same. UI is very good. Debuging is much easy than QTP. I would alwasy prefer Test Complete over QTP. There are limitations with Test Complete as well but negligible. One of the disadvantage is support base unlike QTP. Being in market for long QTP has lot of blogs formus. Test Complete support by smart bear is excellent but thats part of license that you take. Test Complete cost is very much less than QTP. Open source tools are good but none of them come close to QTP Or Test Complete. Open source are free and are developed by some companies initially to cater their specific needs and hence do not support in general requirments. SAHI Pro is a good web browser testing tool. Selenium is best open source tool. Headless browser testing is something to look forward. Any open source tools requires good knowledge of one of the technology like either Java or .net (Mainly JAVA).. and scripting knowleged like JAVA Script. Where as its easy to learn QTP and TEST complete as you have record and run which generates code. Believe me non of the tools are difficult as long as you have the zeel to learn and prove your metal.
