Piano as a Musical Instrument

The Piano is an acoustic musical instrument that Bartolomeo Cristofori invented in 1700. The first instrument was made out of wood, where there were wooden hammers, and the strings were attached to those. However, the hammers were coated with some woollen-like soft material. Many of the early pianists used leather. The Piano is played when the performer presses down the keys with their fingers. The harder the keys are pressed, the louder sound comes out. This instrumental music is very popular in western countries and is thus used in various cultural programs.

History of Piano

A piano is a musical instrument that produces beautiful sounds when played. The sound is produced when the strings get stuck by hammers. When the keys of the keyboard are pressed, the hammers get activated and then the sound comes out.

This instrument was first found in the middle Ages and was known as Hammered Dulcimers, and it was a bit different from what it looks like now. The aim of Cristofori while manufacturing the prototype of the Piano was to make sure that while the strings touch the hammer, it does not stay attached to it but returns to its earlier position. If it remains attached, it can damp the sound, and this would stop from vibrating and ultimately, the sound won’t come out. So this means that after the strings get struck, the hammer is supposed to fall from the strings. Again the hammer is also supposed to get back without bouncing back violently. The position in which the hammer returns must be the one that would enable the key to play the same note repetitively with speed.

The Popularity of Piano-

During the late 18th Century, the production of Piano started throughout Europe. There were various designs of Piano, and every country used to manufacture those different from others. The England Pianos are heavier, and the volume is much louder than the form of Austria. Those are much lighter, and the sound is also comparatively softer than the pianos of England.

The keys of the pianos also differ in terms of numbers. While the most common number of keys has 88 keys, other small pianos can have 85 keys.

Types of Pianos-

The Upright Piano:

This is the tallest vertical Piano which ranges from 50 to 60 inches. The width can, however, reach around 58 inches. This type of Piano is said to be very durable and produce a rich tone while playing. If maintained properly, such a piano can make a strong sound for a long time. Such pianos are very famous for being transformed from one generation to another, and so it is also known as ‘Grandma’s piano’. This type of Piano is, however, appropriate for training students in music classes. As these pianos are slender and can be kept in one corner of the room, anyone can easily arrange piano classes.

The Concert Grand:

Among the pianos, this one is the largest, with a height reaching 9 feet. Some pianos have 88 keys, but many manufacturers tend to add a few extra open keys that produce outstanding sounds and melodies.

The Baby Grand:

After the petite, the baby grand is the bigger Piano. This specific piano measures around 4 feet 11 inches and can reach a height of 5 feet 6 inches. This Piano is very popular among pianists, and this is why they extensively use it in various programs. The impressive design and structure of the pianos make this kind a lot more attractive than any other of the lot.

The Piano is held high above many others in instrumental music because of its grandeur and sweet sound. It is why many want to learn this musical instrument, and thus they join piano classes. In these classes, professionals train the students. Well, nowadays online piano classes are becoming more popular than traditional ones. These are much cheaper, and anyone can connect with any tutor they feel comfortable with. There are no restrictions on region or language.
