Key technique Drop your finger to the key, don't hit it. Keep your wrist loose and let it fall a little. When you pull back up from the key, let your wrist move back to the starting position. Tension control Great pianists are masters of controlling tension. Know when to tense and when to release your muscles. Motion Minimize motion at the keyboard. Using small movements conserves energy and gets you to the keys faster. Sight reading When sight reading, focus on the written music and use your ears instead of glancing down to make sure you're hitting the right notes. Practice Create a series of challenges for yourself during practice, like trying to do something a certain number of times in a row. Learn Learn scales/arpeggios, and practice pieces slowly at first, then gradually speed up. Perform Find opportunities to perform or play with others. read less
