The 88 keys are divided into: - _7 octaves_: The piano keyboard spans 7 octaves, from A0 (27.5 Hz) to C8 (4186 Hz). - _12 notes per octave_: Each octave has 12 notes, including the 7 natural notes (A, B, C, D, E, F, and G) and 5 sharps/flats (#/b). Some pianos may have fewer keys, such as: - _Toy pianos or children's keyboards_: These often have 25-49 keys. - _Harpsichords or early pianos_: These may have fewer keys, typically between 47-67 keys. The four octaves were limiting, so manufacturers began making pianos with more keys. Some pianists, teachers, and performing arts health professionals are advocating for a change to the standard piano keyboard.
