Course Objectives:
- Develop a strong foundation in phonics, focusing on letter sounds and combinations.
- Enhance writing skills, beginning with letter formation and progressing to words and sentences.
- Build reading fluency using sight words, phonetic patterns, and short books.
- Introduce basic grammar concepts, including parts of speech, through engaging activities.
Course Structure
1. Phonics and Double Sounds
- Learn individual letter sounds and how they combine to form words.
- Focus on double sounds like "ch," "sh," and "th" to enhance pronunciation.
- Activities to identify and differentiate sounds in words.
2. Writing Practice
- Begin with correct pencil grip and letter formation on four-line copies.
- Gradually write phonetically simple words, increasing complexity over time.
- Progress to writing sentences and short passages.
3. Reading Practice
- Emphasize single and double sounds in words.
- Introduce sight words and practice using reading folders.
- Explore different spellings of the same sounds (e.g., "f," "ph," "ff").
- Read short, level-appropriate books to build fluency and comprehension.
4. Parts of Speech
- Introduce basic grammar concepts (nouns, verbs, etc.) using child-friendly materials and activities.
Materials Required:
- Printable worksheets (to be provided by parents).
- Four-line English copy.
- Blank paper.
- Color pencils and crayons.
By the end of the course, children will confidently read and write, recognize key phonetic patterns, and understand basic grammatical concepts.
