History of Rasa
As per Bharat Muni’s “Natyashastra”, ancient Sanskrit text of dramatic theory and other performance arts written between 200 BC and 200 AD we get eight Rasas in the Indian performing arts but in addition, we get three more rasas-two more as per “Sahitya Darpan” and one more as per “Vaishnav Shyastra”
What is Rasa & Bhava
The Rasa-Bhava is the central concept in performing arts such as dance, drama, cinema, literature, etc. Bhava means “to become”. Bhava is the state of mind while Rasa is the aesthetic flavor that results from that Bhava. In other words, Rasa is the dominant emotional theme that is evoked in the audience. In simple words, bhava is the sentiment and rasa is the emotion.
