This class is designed for law students, aspiring legal professionals, social workers, and individuals interested in understanding the framework and implementation of legal aid services in India. Whether you're pursuing a career in law or wish to contribute to access to justice for the underprivileged, this course will equip you with the essential knowledge and skills required in the field.
Students will learn about the concept of legal aid, its constitutional mandate under Article 39A, and the role of statutory bodies like the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and State Legal Services Authorities (SLSAs). The course will cover provisions from the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, and explore practical aspects such as eligibility for free legal aid, Lok Adalats, legal aid clinics, and the role of para-legal volunteers. Additionally, allied laws supporting vulnerable groups—such as women, children, SC/ST communities, and the differently abled—will also be discussed.
Students are advised to bring a notebook, relevant bare acts (especially the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987), and maintain access to online legal databases or resources for deeper understanding
