Alpana is generally done on the floor and t on the wall. From time immemorial, especially womenfolk of Bengal have been using these designs for religious and ceremonial purposes.
The basic designs are more or less the same, only new forms and new colours are being experimented with along with a larger scale of design. The changing moods of the seasons are reflected very well in the Alpana designs.
Traditionally, homemade rice powder is used to make the rangoli but generally uses khari mati — calcium or chalk powder. Khari mati needs to be soaked in water for a day to get the right consistency suitable for the purpose.
For the course purpose you will be needed following items:
1. You will be needed socked and ground rice
or
2. Acrylic Paint (Preferably white)
3. Round brush
4. cotton ball
