I wanted to share my horrendous and traumatic experience with the principal, P S Khot, of New Horizon Gurukul school in Bangalore.

My son is in the first grade and goes for after-school football classes. He gets picked up at 3:30 to NHVM daycare (it is in another campus) and at 4:30 on football days. Last Monday (4th Aug 2014), the football class was not conducted but daycare or parents were not informed. My son went to the ground, started crying and ran back to the reception area where he luckily found the daycare kids (who were just leaving) and went with them. I called the school around 2:45pm on Tuesday and spoke to a lady called Netravathi. She wasn't sure if classes would be conducted that day either. To my shock, she told me that 'what's the big deal if he doesn't get picked at 3:30? He can wait on the grounds and be picked up at 4:30! Imagine a child who is not even 6 years old being clueless on what needs to be done. This is a potential security issue, especially after the recent Vibgyor case in Bangalore.

Last afternoon I had the 'good luck' to speak to the principal. I told him what happened (he wasn’t even aware that the classes were not conducted), but he kept on interrupting me and did not let me finish. He was very skillfully adding words to twist the story in his favor. It was so evident that he did not want to admit any lapse by the school. He continued to raise his voice and accused me of being an irresponsible parent and a liar. He also said that I didn’t know how to speak to the principal, whereas he was the one who was raising his voice and talking disrespectfully. He told me that if I have security concerns, then I should go to the police. He then threatened me by saying that he will speak with the chairman about expelling my child from the school.

I was really shaken by all this and told him that this is not how he speaks to a woman, especially a pregnant one (I am 6 months pregnant btw). I walked away as I didn’t want to be insulted further. I calmed myself down and then went back in 5 minutes to talk to him again but they did not let me speak with him. He was occupied with making an Independence Day video for the school, which he thought was higher priority than listening to a parent's concern about security.

Ironically, the Vice Principal told me that this stress wasn’t good for my pregnancy. I told her firmly that I have concerns about the security (which causes stress!) and have come to speak to the principal and he wasn't even listening to me.

This has been such a traumatic experience for me that I wanted to share it with everyone. I am still shocked at how a principal, who is of my father's age, could behave like this. I wonder how he would react if the same thing happened to his grandson. «less

New Horizon Vidya Mandhir - DayCare Facility.
Such a disaster.They got 40 kids,2 teacher,2 caretaker.Those 2 teacher got no experience in handling the young kids.They scream on the kids and scold them.My son went to the daycare for 1 week and I can see my son bad feeling towards the daycare.They don't have toys not even plans to engage them..Full Mess.
Parents please think twice before you put your kids to such daycare who put all kids in 1 or 2 room and don't have toys or plan to engage them.They expect them to sit in one place without interacting with others.they complaints about the kids behaving rather then solving. «less

For Long time As a parent I am facing more or less same problems what other concerned parents have highlighted .So I thought to express my honest views. I am sharing my my personal experience as a parent whose child is studying in New Horizon Vidya Mandir. This is not intended to criticize any one in person. We had loads of hope when we first enrolled our kid .So many Transport issues and other my friends have same problem. Most of the time child come back home sleepy. At start up level we never expected to have such kind of problems.Above all staff is inexperienced and have serious doubt on their capabilities to run this school.My son has a very bad time in the school everyday I have to literally drag him to school. The teacher of Lkg is a mean and rude female. Her treatment with children and with us is different. She is totally arrogant and we had a tough time approaching her. If u call her on phone, she snaps. She is such a argumentative and impatient woman and don’t even bother to speak to the parents properly. My child came back home with a wet pant many times being a responsible lady not even bothered to change the dress for my child rather humiliates the child very badly. she does not bother about the impact of her attitude has on tender minds of children. It is ironical that teachers who are otherwise supposed to nurture the students' talent seem to be suppressing the same with their wrong attitude «less

My son is in 1st grade and going to Gurukul.I would say the only good thing about the school is just Infrastructure that they have. Attitude of teachers are very bad over their, they abuse the child like anything... even sometime they twist their ears and fingers also....They don't give chance to child to put his part. .It happened not only with my child but other parents also hv such stories and when we questioned them they simply refuse. Going to headmistress and management is also waste.
If i will come to study part they follow very traditional way of teaching, ... their is no concept based studies, which is very imp now a days. Class strength is also 40 : 1. I am going to change the school in coming session. I would say that don't go just on d basis of infrastructure or facilities. «less

I have taken admission in 2014 for my daughter in 1st class, they have asked only 40K and that will cover uniform and Books till 12th. What else you can get in 40 K?

Yes, Fees are 77K and which is ok as they have to pay to teacher monthly salary and today in high inflation world can teacher work in sub K salary?

There are parents who have not received admission and would have time to write but those whose kids are studying and got admission they don't have time to write review. I have my friends who are well placed and their kids are studying and they are happy.

From friends review I know that Teachers are strict and not soft like International schools. Probably that we need to watch further. That will be my message to management to improve. «less

My son is in first and daughter in third class had faced so many situations in the school.Creativity is being suppressed by the many teachers in the school by passing negative comments. While giving such comments, many of these teachers do not bother about the impact their attitude has on tender minds of children. My daughter in studying in Third and son is in First class. Some Teachers are very rude in this school. They seem to take every opportunity to either twist the ear or hit the poor child or rudely scold the child without giving the child an opportunity to explain themselves. Hitting is a crime and the teachers must refrain from doing this. The teachers are so rude that the child’s confidence is shattered. They try to force the child to admit something the child has not done. There is lack of teacher-teacher communication it seems because of which the child seems to be getting into trouble. Homework given is way too much. Projects also are too many. There is no time for a child to revise what is done at school. Need more caring teachers who are patient and listen to the children and improve them instead of demotivating them. «less

I'm seeking admission for my sons into classes VIII and IX for the academic year 2014-2015. I would like to know if you offer FRENCH AS SECOND LANGUAGE in class VIII. I would also appreciate it if you could give me a clear fee structure for the above grades.Would you please tell me when admissions will happen this year.,,is it Novenber like you've mentioned on the wall?My sons study in Kuwait and would not be able to come during the admission formalities...can they take the admission test in April 2014?
I would appreciate a reply ASAP.
