‘Circles’ are important figures in geometry. This is because you find circles everywhere.
You look around, and you find several objects like the plates, tyres, dial of your watch,
button of your shirt, coins and much more which are circular in shape. Moreover, the
eyes with which you see everything else are also circular in shape. It is inevitable that
you need to study circles and important terms related to them. ‘Circle’ is a very
interesting topic and consists of several interesting facts and properties that have
practical application in our day to day lives.
10.1 Introduction
10.2 Circles and its Related Terms: A Review
10.3 Angle Subtended by a Chord at a Point
10.4 Perpendicular from the Centre to a Chord
10.5 Circle through Three Points
10.6 Equal Chords and their Distances from the Centre
10.7 Angle Subtended by an Arc of a Circle
10.8 Cyclic Quadrilaterals
10.9 Summary
Section 10.2 – In this section, you’ll learn about various terms related to circles such as
centre, radius, circular region, diameter, chord, the interior of a circle, the exterior of a
circle, major arc, minor arc, circumference, segment, sector, semicircular region and
more.
Section 10.3 – In this section, you’ll study some important theorems and the
relationship between the size of the chord and the angle subtended by it at the centre.
Section 10.4 – In this section, you’ll learn that the line drawn through the centre of a
a circle that bisects a chord is actually perpendicular to the chord.
Section 10.5 – This section explains that there is one and only one circle passing through
three given non-collinear points.
Section 10.6 – In this section, you’ll study some interesting theorems and also and
about equal chords and their distances from the centre of the circle.
Section 10.7 – In this section too you’ll study some new theorems and learn about the
the angle subtended by an arc of a circle.
Section 10.8 – In this section, you’ll acquire knowledge about cyclic quadrilateral along
with useful theorems.
