Section 1.1 – This section deals with agricultural practices. You will also learn more about crops and the different types of crops.
Section 1.2 – This section gives a list of all the basic practices of crop production.
Section 1.3 – This section deals with the preparation of soil. In this section, you will learn about the soil and its characteristics. You will learn the importance of preparing the soil before starting to sow the seeds. In this section, you will learn about the different agricultural techniques and processes that are implemented by farmers to break soil clumps to get better yield. You will learn about plough, hoe and cultivator being used to set the soil before sowing of seeds.
Section 1.4 – In this section, you will learn the importance of sowing the right kind of seeds and all the other related activities. You will learn about seed selection and the tools used to sow the seeds. Besides, you will also learn about the traditional method of sowing the seeds and even the modern method of using seed drills for sowing the seeds.
Section 1.5 – This section deals with adding manure and fertilisers. In this section, you will learn about the substances that are added to the soil in the form of nutrients for the healthy growth of plants. You will learn more about the ways to enrich the soil, such as- crop rotation, organic manure and other ways used to improve the soil quality. You will understand the advantages of manure and fertilisers and the role played by these in bringing up a good harvest.
Section 1.6 – This section deals with the concept of irrigation. In this section, you will learn more about irrigation, which is to supply water to the crops at regular intervals. Just like any other living being, crops need water for growth and to survive. Thus, this chapter deals with the crucial concept of irrigation. In this section, you will learn about the different sources of irrigation and the traditional and modern methods used for irrigation. You will learn about traditional methods like pulley method, chain pump, ‘dhekli’ and ‘rahat’. You will also learn about the modern methods used for irrigation such as sprinkler method and drip system.

You will learn about the different methods used to stop weeds and to remove the unwanted weeds grown. There are manual methods to remove these weeds using the equipment. You will also learn about using the chemicals to stop these weeds; the chemical is called weedicides and is sprayed on the crops to protect them from weeds.
Section 1.8 – In this section, you will learn about the cutting of crops after it is ready, this is called harvesting. You will learn more about the process of harvesting and other related activities like threshing and winnowing. This section helps you to understand more about the process of harvesting after the maturing of the crops, according to the time taken by different crops to grow.
Section 1.9 – This section deals with the concept of storage. In this section, you will learn about storing the harvested crops until they are used for consumption. The storage is an important task, as it is to protect the crops from sunlight, moisture, insects and other deterioration. In this section, you will know more about the storing techniques, it depends on the kind of environment required by a particular crop. Crops are stored in warehouses, granaries and silos.
Section 1.10 – This section deals with food from animals. In this section, you will learn about food such as milk, meat, chicken etc, obtained from animals. You will understand that the food consumed is received either from plants or animals. This section helps one to understand the food chain. This section is a brief discussion on the food obtained from animals. In this section, you will learn about rearing animals, which is known as animal husbandry.
