In this chapter, you will study about ‘Exponents and Powers’. What are Exponents? Exponents mean the number of times a number (base) is multiplied by itself. It is the small number present on the top right side of the base number. A Power is an expression that consists of two parts – the base number and the exponent. Exponents and powers help in writing very large or very small numbers in a very easy manner. Example, it is easier to express the mass of the earth in terms of exponents and powers instead of writing the actual number. Also, extremely small numbers like the size of a red blood cell can be expressed in standard form using negative exponents.
