The additional molecular compounds that retain their identity in solid-state as well as in a dissolved state are known Coordination Compounds. The central metal atom or ion is linked with the help of ions or molecules by coordinate bonds. For e.g., Potassium ferrocyanide, K4 [Fe(CN)6]. Coordination Compounds Class 12 NCERT Solutions is one of the most important topics in the CBSE curriculum.

9.6 Bonding in Metal Carbonyls
9.7 Stability of Coordination Compounds
9.8 Importance and Applications of Coordination Compounds
In the history of inorganic chemistry, coordination compounds are relatively new and a modern concept. During the last fifty years, advances in this area, have provided development of new concepts and models of bonding and molecular structure, novel breakthroughs in the chemical industry and vital insights into the functioning of critical components of biological systems.
Section 9.1: Alfred Werner, a Swiss chemist, was the first to come up with ideas regarding the structures of coordinate compounds. Werner proposed the concept of a primary valence and a secondary valence for a metal ion.
Section 9.2: In this section, you will find the definition of some terms that are important to learn when it comes to Coordinate compounds. You will learn the definition of terms such as Coordination entity, Central atom/ion, Ligands, Coordination number, Coordination sphere, Coordination polyhedron, the Oxidation number of the central atom and the Homoleptic and heteroleptic complexes.
Section 9.3: This section you will learn about the importance of nomenclature in Coordination Chemistry. This is because of the need to have an unambiguous method of describing formulas and writing systematic names, particularly when dealing with isomers.
Section 9.4: Isomers are two or more compounds with the same formula but a different arrangement of atoms in the molecule. In this section, you will learn about isomerism in coordination compounds.
Section 9.5: Coordinate compounds bond and Werner was the first person to talk about this. After Warner, there are many other theories to explain the bonding between coordinate compounds.
Section 9.6-9.8: In these sections, you will learn about Bonding in Metal Carbonyls, Stability of Coordination Compounds and Importance and Applications of Coordination Compounds in detail.
