Both are English proficiency. IELTS is usually the easier of the two. Anyone who uses English on a regular basis at college or workplace can pass the exam quite easily. The IELTS sends a practice workbook once you apply for the test and most of the time that workbook is enough. If you are not someone who is not too fluenct with the language then a little bit of coaching would help quite a lot.

The sound that letters make is a phonic sound. See there are 26 alphabets and each of them have a sound of its own, that's their phonic sound. However as we know English is a little funny language, despite it having 26 alphabets we have around 44 phonic sounds, How.
Look at these letters and think of the sounds they make,
a, e, th, sh, oa. You see letters have their own phonic sounds and another when you join a few together.
Phonics is the method of learning all these variations to help a person read and write properly.
