I would recommend learning how to sing if you're not trained. You'll end up learning a lot about your voice and how to keep it in shape. Plus, your general understanding of music will also increase.
If you're not able to find time later, your basic understanding of music and the exercises you learn early on will keep you afloat and move forward.
