Flash Fill: Advance Excel

Flash Fill is only available in MS excel 13 and above versions. Flash fill is used to fill the data automatically in the below cells if a pattern is evident. It can also extract, insert or concatenate.

Some examples for flash fill are below:

Separating first name and the last name. In the below example (screenshot attached). we have list of full names in one column. We can separate First names and Last name using Flash Fill.

1. Copy first name from cell A2 and paste in the “First name” column (Cell B2) and copy last name from A2 and paste in the last name cell (Cell C2)

2. Select cell B2, go to Data in the excel ribbon and click on flash fill(screenshot below for reference)

3. Once you click on flash fill, the cells below B2 will automatically get filled with first name. Same goes for last name. Check the screenshot below for your reference.
