1. Smoke Test: Think of a smoke test as a quick check-up to see if everything is basically working before you dive deeper. It’s like making sure the lights come on when you flip the switch in a new house. In automation testing, a smoke test is run to ensure that the most important features of the software work properly. If any critical issue is found, the testing stops so it can be fixed immediately. It’s a way to catch big problems early on.
2. Acceptance Test: An acceptance test is more thorough. It’s like checking every room in the house to see if it’s up to the standard you expect before you decide to live there. In automation testing, acceptance tests are run to make sure the software meets the business requirements and is ready for the end users. These tests are usually done at the end of the development process to confirm everything works as planned and that the software is ready for release.
In short, smoke tests are about quick, initial checks, while acceptance tests are about making sure everything meets the desired quality standards before saying "we're good to go!"
